Here at the HELP Pregnancy Center we offer free non-diagnostic, limited ultrasounds to our clients who are expectant mothers. We offer these ultrasounds to help introduce the expectant mother to the tiny life that is growing within her womb. We also use the ultrasound to help educate them on their baby’s development. So many women are surprised by their baby’s heartbeat, not realizing that their baby’s heart began beating 18-21 days after conception – right about the time they realized that they missed their menstrual period.
In 2017, we performed 400 free ultrasounds at our in-house clinic and 82 on our mobile unit. Each time we perform an ultrasound on an expectant mother here at the HELP Pregnancy Center, we gift her with a pair of baby booties made by volunteers. We receive booties from individuals, church knitting ministries, and even a college knitting club. We package the booties in small bags with an attached card printed with Psalm 139:13-14 “You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” We love to hand the booties out to the mothers as they are an expression of God’s love and provision that we try to communicate to our clients.
We are always in need of booties and you can help. For convenience, we have attached both knit and crochet patterns for booties just in case you need a pattern. However, if you have a pattern that you already fancy, please use whatever pattern you wish. We only ask that you try to use gender neutral colors since our ultrasounds are usually done very early in the pregnancy and we do not know if the baby is a boy or a girl.
